so i had a kid who was writing a mayor for a day essay and i asked him how it was going and it turned out he was writing an essay about what he would do if he was a bear for a day! so funny.

"If I was a bear for a day, it would be a very interesting day. I've always wanted to see what it was like to be in the shoes of an animal. i wouldn't like to be in the city though, on the streets because I wouldn't like to be picked up by animal control for the only day i was a bear. I would probably go hide out."

at that point I clarified the essay topic and he wrote the right essay.

A kid keeps looking at a website for halloween masks and keeps pointing out the clown masks to his friend.
Kid: Man, check out this clown mask.
Friend: What is it with you and the clown masks?
Kid (frustrated): Maybe I like them and I'm scared of them at the same time, ok?

I was just talking to a regular - he used to live near the library, but he and his mom have been in north part of the city the last week or so but he's still taking the bus to come to our branch.
He said his mom wants to move to north part of town but he doesn't want to - he said "I told her I didn't want to move because then I'd have to switch schools and I couldn't come to the library anymore."

Two kids from my old branch were hear for an hour or so. Their dad picked them up and he was super cool. "HEY! How's it going" and he was asking about the old branch. We talked for awhile and I told him I'd be at this new branch for the fall. He said he'd make sure Junior and Anthony came to the new branch.
It was nice to be recognized by a dad and to have a discussion that ended with him smiling and promising to make sure his boys came around.
