Summer is a crazy time for public librarians... Especially those of us who work with youth. Only a couple of days until school starts!

Here's the latest collection...

Kid (yelling across the room): Hey! Ain't it right if you born August 25th you're a cappuccino!?!
Me (Laughing): What?
Kid: If you born in August you're a cappuccino!?!
Me (laughing harder): Cappuccino is a type of coffee.
Kid's older friend: You idiot! You're a Leo not a Cappuccino!
Kid: Oh...my bad.

Kid: Can you sign me up for the caricatures?
Me: Sure. Anyone else want to sign up?
Kid 2: Nope, I don't like caricatures.
Me: Do you know what they are?
Kid 2: Nope, but I don't like them.

Here's an exchange I had about 30 minutes after the reading program ended yesterday.
Kid: Hey, can I have one of those free print coupons.
Me: Did you come to the read-in?
Kid: No, but I wan't one. Can I have one.
Me: No.
Kid: Why not?
Me: Because I give them to people who come to the read-ins. If you read with us next week I'll give you a coupon.
Kid: So you're not going to give me one?
Me: No

I did have a very cool moment yesterday - there's a kid who's been a pretty bad egg in the past (cops were called on him at my old branch...he's on probation now). Anyway, he doesn't come around much, but he shows up every now and then and he's been behaving when he's here. So yesterday he walks in with a completed summer reading program card and asks me where to turn it in. I told him I'd take it (and trying to be very nonchalant) asked him if he'd read any good books. He said he had read the Outsiders and really liked it. It was such a cool moment, I just wanted to high-five him or something but I restrained myself. :)

Krazy Kid Name: Sequatis (female)

First off, I had a new 10 year old kid walk in, comes up, introduces himself to me and shakes my hand (it was just too cute). Just now a kid comes in and asks to use the phone. He gets on the phone and calls his mom to wish her a happy birthday b/c he forgot to tell her this morning. What's going on around here?! I'm expecting the Walt Disney animals to start walking around and singing! ;o)

kid: booty is b-u-t-t-y.
me: that's not how you spell booty
kid: oh yeah - it's b-u-u-t-y
