One of my homework middle schoolers asked about the headphones that I removed after one pair was vandalized.
Kid: Are there ever going to be headphones?
Me: Yeah, when I have one for each computer. (Which is not 100% true because I while I can get another pair easily, I'm rather enjoying the quiet in my library.)
Kid:You lost your sense of trust in us.
Me: Yeah, I kind of did.
So here's my funny for the day...
I was just helping a 9-year old. He had to read an article about the avian flu and then summarize it. As we were talking about the article, he busts out with: "I feel sorry for the birds. And maybe a little for the people, but some people are so mean."
Reference work...
Miss, do you have a dictionary so I can find the zip code to my school?
4-year old brother of a kid who used the youth computers was yelling and making a lot of noise. I asked his mother, who was sitting at a public computer, if I could ask her kid to be quieter. She said yes. I whispered to him that he had to keep his voice down in the library because people were trying to read and do work. When I turned away, he very audibly said "bitch." I turned around and said, "Did I just hear what I thought I heard?" The 11-year old brother says, "yes, he said it," pointing to the 4-year old. I almost laughed. Luckily, the mother stood up at that moment, and said, "We're leaving," so at least I didn't have to have her call me that too (I'm assuming he learned at home that it's cool to call women who reprimand you a bitch).
what is it about signing up for the computer that makes kids run away?
Oh -yes i want to use the computer (you can tell by the way i marched right up to it and sat down) but once you come up and tell me i have to sign up for them - well no i don't want to actually use it. and then i will practically run fleeing away from the crazy lady who wants me to sign up. it is so weird and it happens quite often.
